Construction Kick-off planned downtown April 29
MANKATO, Minn. – The second year of a major reconstruction on Highways 5, 19 and 22 in Gaylord in will begin on Monday, May 4, weather permitting.
Highway traffic will be detoured to local city and county roads. Initial routes used for detouring include Melro Street, Sibley County Road 21, Commercial Ave/Industrial Ave. and 2nd Street South. Motorists are advised to follow signs or find detour maps at exploregaylord.org/.
Downtown shoppers are encouraged to attend the Construction Kick-off on Wednesday, April 29 beginning at 5:30 p.m. and stop by City Hall to learn more about the project and related detours. Weekly update meetings will also be offered to the public each Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Gaylord Library, 428 Main Avenue.
In 2015 the project centers on the business section including Highway 5 and Highway 22 to the south. In addition to utilities, sidewalks and roadway, the project includes new lighting, benches, bike racks and planters. The project will be completed in phases including:
· May 4 to early July
o Main Ave. – 6th Street to 4th Street
o 4th Street from Commercial Ave. S. to Main Ave.
· Early June to early Aug.
o 4th Street – Main Ave. to Court Ave
· Early July to late Sept.
o Main Ave. – 4th Street to 1st Street
Work completed in 2014 included reconstruction of a section of Highway 19 and 22 extending from Sibley Avenue to Gaylord’s north city limits. Utilities have been updated, sidewalks are accessible to disabled and a new smoother and safer roadway is in place.
Wm. Mueller & Sons of Hamburg has been awarded the contract for $10,167,451.
